What is Pencak Silat?The martial art of Pencak Silat has over 800 known styles in Indonesia and can be found in many South-East Asian countries. The Indonesian style of Pencak Silat was historically disguised as a dance during the Dutch occupation, with the most effective techniques hidden in the art form. Previously called the Dutch East Indies, the people of Indonesia rose up against oppression and used Pencak Silat (that had been hidden for centuries) to defeat the occupiers and regain their independence at the end of World War II. Pencak Silat then officially became a sport. It is a style that has retained its tradition throughout the years, has been proven on the battle-field and remains one of the most effective, authentic and complete martial art systems in the world.

Wirayudha Pencak Silat is a Traditional Martial Art from the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. Wirayudha is the family style of Guru Eka Aris Suhartanto (Aris), with techniques passed down from generation to generation. Wirayudha is a well-rounded and complete traditional martial art with its roots grounded in Indonesian history, warfare and tradition. The Wirayudha style of Pencak Silat has been adapted over many years to include traditional and modern day fighting techniques to suit the real life fighting situations of today.
Wirayudha was created to combat aggressive opponents through the use of highly technical applications. Wirayudha teaches speed, agility and adaptability with no set Jurus (like Kata in Karate). Basic techniques are mastered through the art form to improve reflexes and develop muscle memory, before teaching the applications of these techniques.
Wirayudha is highly versatile and adaptable to suit different types of opponents, different battlefields and many different situations. Basic applications can be applied in many different creative variations, with cross-over between each element of the Wirayudha system.
Guru Eka Aris Suhartanto is the founder of Wirayudha Pencak Silat, an Indonesian martial art from Yogyakarta, Java. Wirayudha Pencak Silat is a full-body fighting form incorporating weapons, striking, locking, breaking, take-down techniques, art form and spirituality. Wirayudha Pencak Silat combines multiple attacks using all limbs and includes take down techniques, locks and holds rendering the opponent immobile while keeping two feet on the ground. The self-defence aspect includes how to defend against armed opponents, disarming techniques and the use of weapons for life and death situations. The spiritual element of Pencak Silat offers techniques to help balance your mind, body and spirit.

Wirayudha Pencak Silat Weapons and Self-Defence consists of various techniques incorporating the use of and defence against weapons (including the knife, kerambit, sword and stick for use in life and death situations or competition), joint manipulation including locking and breaking, street self-defence and precision striking. The art form aspect is used to reinforce the techniques through practical application.
Learn Pencak Silat for Sports & Competition
Pencak Silat Tanding is a points based, stop-clock fighting based competition, with strikes only allowed to the body (that is protected by padding). Pencak Silat Tanding training includes techniques and drills for competition that incorporates a combination of striking, sweeping, tripping, trapping, catching, dropping and sparring. The Sports and Competition aspect also has art form categories that includes individual open hand, weaponry and group art form.
