Guide with information of interest about Aracena, Tourist Municipality of Andalusia.

About this app

With the “Aracena Official Guide” Application, you will have Aracena in your pocket!

It is an application offered by the Aracena City Council and aims to be another channel of information for the citizen or visitor.

The initial idea of this application is to offer a guide in which you can find (through geolocation on a map) fresh and precise information about points of interest, improving Aracena's online presence. It will serve citizens in daily life and, during tourist or commercial visits, those who come to our municipality.

This guide is very useful to navigate its streets, consult locations, telephone numbers and websites of: emergencies and emergencies, health centers, public organizations, points of tourist interest, hotels, restaurants, educational centers, banks, pharmacies, etc.

The municipality of Aracena is located in the north of the province of Huelva, in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park. It is the commercial, cultural and service center of its region and surrounding areas. It is a communications hub that links Seville and Portugal and the gateway to Extremadura in the south of Badajoz.

The general means of transportation is provided by the different roads that pass through the municipality or depart from it (N-433 and provincial roads). Bus lines that connect the municipality with Huelva and Seville pass through Aracena daily. The closest rail and air communications are more than 80 km away, specifically in the city of Seville, although there is a railway line close to the municipality, with a station in El Repilado, which covers the Huelva-Zafra route, but with very poor benefits.

Aracena, declared a Tourist Municipality of Andalusia, is par excellence the city of the Grotto of Wonders, the first cave in Spain opened to tourism in 1914 and a Place of Tourist Interest in Andalusia. One of the most visited natural monuments in the region.

The most emblematic buildings correspond to the beginning of the 20th century, most of them the work of the Sevillian architect Aníbal González (the current City Hall building, the Arias Montano Casino, the Plaza de Abastos, the Grotto reception, the residential area of 'Aracenilla', among others). The discovery in 1886 of the Grotto of Wonders, and its subsequent tourist development in 1914, together with the mild summer temperatures and the vacation stays of numerous members of the Spanish royal family, turned the city into an important tourist center.

This tourist tradition has led to an Aracena that meets all the requirements to be a first-class inland destination. In addition to the Grotto of Wonders, there are other tourist resources of interest that are widely visited every year: on the one hand, the Fortified Enclosure that includes visits to the 13th century Fortress Castle, which houses Almohad period homes dating back to the 12th century. The Priory Church of the Castle (12th-15th century), the Cabildo building (15th century), the Parish, the Convent of Jesús and a total of seven Mudejar churches complete the monumental Aracena, which contrasts with touches of modernism, such as the Museum of Contemporary Open Air Art and the Ham Museum.
