Wayang kulit is a traditional Indonesian art which mainly developed in Java. Wayang comes from the word 'Ma Hyang' which means to a spiritual spirit, god, or God Almighty. There are also those who interpret wayang as a Javanese term which means 'shadow', this is because the audience can also watch the puppet from behind the screen or just its shadow. Wayang kulit is played by a puppeteer who is also the narrator of the dialogue of the puppet characters, accompanied by gamelan music played by a group of nayaga and songs sung by the singer.
Ki Sugino Siswocarito (Gino) was born on August 17, 1937 in Sawangan Village, Cilongok Banyumas District. Often people refer to Gino as the "mastermind of the crowd". He often performed lively plays that were loved by young people, such as Antasena Gugat, Petruk Dadi Ratu, Petruk Nagih Janji, Gareng Urile Ilang, Laire Wisanggeni, and others. He often improvises and makes his own storylines with different variations compared to wayang stories in general.
The Javanese are the largest ethnic group in Indonesia originating from Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indramayu Regency (West Java), and Serang-Cilegon Regency / City (Banten). In 2010, at least 40.22% of Indonesia's population was ethnic Javanese.
