The prophet is a person with male gender who received revelation from Allah SWT but not obliged to spread to others.The apostle is someone with this type of male who received revelation from Allah and have an obligation to disseminate the revelation.
The actual number is many prophets and messengers. Based on one hadith the Prophet said that the number of 124 thousand people, as follows:
From Abi Zar ra that the Prophet SAW said when asked about the number of prophets, "(The number of the prophets) is one hundred and twenty-four thousand (124,000) prophets." "Then how many Messengers between them?" He replied, "Three hundred twelve (312) "(HR. At-Turmuz)
Of the many prophets and messengers, but who should we believe, as described in the Qur'an is only 25 Nabi or Prophet, and it became one of the Five Pillars of Faith which is the fourth in the religion of Islam that believe to the prophets and apostles.
