1. Lineage of Imam Shafi'i
Imam Syafi'i's full name is Muhammad bin Idris bin 'Abbas bin 'Usman bin Syaafi' bin Saaib bin 'Ubaid bin 'Abdu Yazid bin Haasyim bin 'Abdul Mutthalib bin 'Abdul Manaf.
Imam Shafi'i is the only priest of the sect who is descended from Quraysh whose lineage continues with the Prophet Muhammad through 'Abdul Manaf. Rasulullah saw said: "leadership is from among the people of Quraysh" (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
Imam Fakhrurrazi (one of the great scholars belonging to the Shafi'i school of thought) said: Jurjani is a scholar from the Hanafi school of thought who denounces the lineage of Imam Syafi'i.
He also said that the followers of the maliki school did not admit that Imam Syafi'i's lineage came from Quraysh, they even thought that Syaafi' (Imam Syafi'i's third grandfather) was Abu Lahab's slave. Their hoax has been denied by the majority of scholars who follow the Shafi'i school of thought.
2. Birth and Death of Imam Syafi'i
Imam Nawawi said: the scholars agree that Imam Syafi'i was born in 150 Hijeriyah which coincides with the year of Imam Abu Hanifah's death.
Imam Yaqut said: Imam Shafi'i was born on the day Imam Abu Hanifah died. Although the majority of scholars do not take this opinion into account.
