There is a very amazing phase of the life history of Umar bin Abdul Aziz. That is the phase in which he was sworn in as caliph to replace his cousin, Sulaiman bin Abdul Malik. He became caliph from 91 Hijriyah - 101 Hijriyah. More or less for two years, five months plus a few days. Or we can round up the period of Umar bin Abdul Aziz's caliphate to twenty-nine months, the same length as the caliphate of Abu Bakar ash-Shiddiq radhiyallohu 'anhu.
Twenty-nine months is a short time for a leadership mandate with a wide area. Because at that time Islam had spread to various parts of the world. And all under the rule of an Islamic caliph.
Twenty-nine months is a short time to change the face of the Islamic world which has been overly polluted by the style of the previous tyrannical caliphs.
