About this app
The app offers a way into Bristol’s Romantic period history, through detailed site-specific content and combines this with present-day responses to that cultural heritage. Users will be able to explore the city of Bristol, discovering its history in the present and seeing the present through the lens of the past.A feedback layer allows users to share comments and responses to the experience of discovering new aspects of the city and its surroundings in the south-west.
The app will be able to provide research data about the ways in which walking through a city is altered, enhanced, encouraged and deliberately or subliminally directed by representations of its history.
The app will supply GPS data (with user permission) to a secure database in the University, that will show users’ pathways through the environment, their choices, preferences and explorations. Through analysis, it will be possible to study how people choose to walk through a city, with raised awareness of its history and culture but not following a guidebook track.
