We are building a solution for a problem that we empathize with and feel very passionately about. Geeni addresses a problem that UC Berkeley students experience everyday: traditional tutoring services do not cater to the needs and affordability of today’s students, while also providing both a steady revenue stream for students and a service to facilitate students who wish to excel in their courses by having all of the resources at their fingertips. Our product offers a more effective tutoring service for busy university students, one that allows mobile convenience without compromising on quality. Geeni is an Android and iOS application that allows students who have received B+ or better in specific classes to become tutors and seeks to create a flexible on-demand tutoring experience which incorporates vastly accessible technologies and the volatile schedules that all students face. Geeni’s purpose is to give all students, especially those from lower income backgrounds, the opportunity to use the knowledge they’ve acquired as a tool to make money and others to receive high quality tutoring that they can afford. On top of monetary gains, the act of tutoring helps the tutors themselves to assimilate and further internalize their own knowledge. Also, because the service of Geeni is focused on flexibility and allowing tutors to work at their own free time, tutoring for Geeni would be a massive help for financially strapped students, who have uniquely busy and volatile schedules.
