Detailed Description

The "Stare Powązki" application facilitates finding graves, navigating around the cemetery, thematic walks, learning about the lives of the buried people, as well as educating about the history of this Warsaw necropolis. The tool was created with the use of data from the Stare Powązki inventory carried out by the Office of the Capital Conservator of Monuments.

WHAT WILL YOU FIND IN THE APP?

- presentation of biographical notes of people buried in given graves,
- suggestions for themed walks - selection of individual paths,
- information about the Stare Powązki cemetery, including: current information about the functioning of the cemetery, a historical outline and information "How to get to the cemetery".

The existing naming system of accommodation units has grown over time for over 150 years and today has a historic value. We are dealing here with an intangible monument, because this system is a valuable document of the historical development of this necropolis. The historical numbering of the plots makes it difficult to find individual graves. Thanks to the application, you can also run educational projects for young people from history and art history in Powązki. The application includes thematic routes leading visitors to the necropolis in the footsteps of people resting in Stare Powązki. It contains the history of the necropolis and a brief description of the sepulchral art with its symbolism from the 18th to the 21st century. It is an innovative solution that helps to disseminate knowledge about the cemetery, but also through the prism of people buried in Stare Powązki, about the history of not only the capital, but also the entire country.

Sightseeing and education
The application encourages Warsaw residents and tourists to familiarize themselves with the richness of the necropolis collections. The possibility of using the application for educational purposes has also been created with the adult audience in mind. Thanks to it, they will be able to learn about the history of many famous and distinguished Poles buried there and contribute to the promotion of the protection of cultural monuments in Poland. An equally important goal is to popularize the idea of saving the national heritage of Old Powązki among institutions and individual donors.

Stare Powązki Foundation
The Archdiocese of Warsaw, which is the guardian of the cemetery, decided to establish the Stare Powązki Foundation, whose mission is to preserve the heritage and historical character of this place of eternal rest for many generations of Poles. In addition to activities in the field of protection, conservation and restoration of works of art, the Foundation's goal is to promote Stare Powązki as a great cultural heritage and national good. Through numerous educational programs about art and history, the Foundation wants to make the society aware of the importance of cultural heritage as an important determinant of national identity.
