Detailed Description

This is a video presenting our android application "First Aid For The People". This Project was created for the National Leadership Engine (NLE) 2024 competition organised by the National Productivity Competitiveness Council (NPCC). Our team is from the Pamplemousses Youth Center.

The team members are:

The Primary purpose of this Application was to make First Aid Knowledge easily accessible to everyone and for free.

There should be no instances whereby a casualty died because he could not get a first aid treatment in time as because first aid helps in preserving the life of the person by preventing his condition from worsening until the arrival of Medical Assistance.

Features of the Android Application:
1 A User Interface (UI) suited for high stress situations
The idea was to design the User Interface in such a way that as soon as the person enters the application, he can immediately select the emergency guidance he needs. So, we decided to introduce the system of buttons whereby, when you click on it and it would land you on the First Aid Emergency Guidance you wanted.
The order of the buttons are in descending order starting with the most urgent First Aid Emergency going to the least important first aid emergency.

2 High Accessibility for people with poor vision
The background colour has been set to a light colour so that the informations that have been written can easily be read. There is also the ability to zoom in and zoom out in the application to make it easy to read when needed.

3 Accompanying Guiding Videos for people who cannot read
There are accompanying videos for each kind of First Aid Emergency besides the written information. These videos are from Licensed Professionals from the St John Ambulance UK that have permitted us to use their YouTube videos.

4 Sensitising people on Learning First Aid
The Application also answers the question as to why a person should learn First Aid if ever they have got this Question in mind.

5 Emergency Call Button
Since the Pre- Project survey showed us that many people do not know the emergency phone number, hence, we implemented an Emergency Call Button in the Android Application that immediately dials the number for SAMU that is “114”.

6 Stopwatch
There is always a stopwatch present in the application in the bottom of each page. The stopwatch allows to measure the time since the start of the Medical Emergency to be able to know the extent of damage that may have been done during this time to help the Medical Experts to decide what procedures to do.
The Stopwatch may also be used for timing if ever a CPR procedure is being performed on a casualty.

7 Map Showing Nearby Hospitals
The Android Application is also equipped with a Mini Map of Mauritius highlighting the different hospitals around the island. Then, with respect to the position of the person, he can choose which hospital is closest to him in an emergency.

8 Directory for other Emergency Numbers
The Android Application also has a dedicated page whereby other Emergency Numbers are listed. For example, in a drowning situation, one may find the number of the National Coast Guard (NCG) on it.

9 CPR button is present in all the pages relevant to the Emergency Aid selected.
There is always a button to redirect to the CPR guide as there is always the chance a casualty may stop breathing, so the persisting CPR button prevents time waste in such situations.

10 Three bar menu and search bar
In any page withing the app, a person may click on the three-bar menu to get the list of other Emergencies, or he may also type in keywords within the search bar to get the relevant information.
