Qiyaam al-layl is spending most or part of the night, even an hour, in worshiping God by praying, reciting the Qur’an, and remembrance of God. It is called standing and intended for worship in general, and night prayer in particular.

Qiyaam al-layl is the practice of the righteous, the trade of the believers, and the work of the winners. At night the believers are alone, and they turn to their Creator and Creator, complaining to Him about their situation, and asking Him of His bounty, for their souls are standing in the hands of their Creator, devoted to their Creator, breathing in those breaths, and quoting from the lights of these closenesses.
