O God, befriend whoever befriends him, and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him.” Some of the companions, such as Omar bin Al-Khattab, congratulated Imam Ali (peace be upon him) on his status as Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) after this sermon, and they called him the Commander of the Faithful.
